Vessel-Check provided a seamless aquatic biosecurity experience sailing an anchor handling vessel across the Tasman from New Zealand and into Victoria. As per normal practice, the vessel’s master put the destination port into her onboard navigation system. As the State of Victoria is a Vessel-Check user, a biofouling risk calculation was automatically generated and the Victorian regulator was able to see the expected arrival information, risk score, BMP, record book, coating certificate and management actions. It was seamless and very efficient, no emailing back and forth and all the information in one place.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen is a market leader in RoRo shipping and vehicle logistics, managing the distribution of cars, trucks rolling equipment and breakbulk to customers globally. We have been using Vessel-Check since its inception and now have 65 vessels with profiles, delivering automatic biofouling risk assessments for many of the ports we visit. Our Ship Management also use Vessel-Check to maintain a vessel’s biofouling record book, this is all done with their own logins. This provides me with an overview over the complete fleet, and it is very transparent way of working. The user management and accessibility are easy to use and delivers improved efficiency in biofouling management across our vessels. I have found Vessel-Check a particularly useful tool for Wallenius Wilhelmsen to track a vessel’s biofouling management and this is a high priority for our oganisation. The support documentation and access to the team is very transparent and easy to handle, and in addition for the Authorities, they can easily identify if a vessel is in any risk towards their waterways while a Wallenius Wilhelmsen vessels is operating there.
Following a dry-dock in Singapore and during the vessel transit down into Australia, I needed to obtain a Vessel-Check biofouling management risk assessment. This entailed registering and creating a vessel profile on the portal and talking to the support team to update vessel particulars. The team at Vessel-Check responded promptly to my requests and helped me create an effective and accurate vessel profile and risk score. Having worked through the process with 1 vessel, I am comfortable with using Vessel-Check for future vessels and port nominations on as needed basis.
Western Australia is one of the strictest regions in the world specific to biosecurity management, with strict compliance to local regulatory requirements and contractual requirements specific to accepted Environmental Plans in areas Allseas operate. The use of Vessel-Check was made available, creating a live profile for each vessel to help control risk prior to vessel entry into Australia (moving away from a paper bound approach). Allseas were preparing a number of construction vessels to operate in Western Australian waters and I was responsible for working through the aquatic biosecurity requirements. I found the tool very beneficial. The online documentation was thorough and the support staff were very helpful, and provided useful one on one suggestions to ensure the vessels’ profile was accurate and risk assessments performed as expected.
I have added several vessels to the Vessel-Check portal and have found the system structured, logical, well set out and above all easy to use. It both speeds up and simplifies my interaction with the Western Australian State regulator and is a handy and flexible tool for managing biofouling which provides invaluable insights to my clients. The support team is fantastic they are very responsive and have dealt with any questions and issues, rapidly and effectively.
